Approximately 15% of people suffer from Bruxism/Teeth grinding. Bruxism is a condition in which you grind or clench your teeth. Patient suffering from bruxism may unconsciously clench their teeth together during the day or grind them at night.  In such a case, it's important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism in order to seek regular dental care. Bruxism may be mild and may not even require treatment. However, it can be frequent and severe enough to lead to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth and other problems. 


Causes of grinding teeth: In some cases, the cause of teeth grinding is due to the lack of alignment of upper and lower teeth. Moreover, stress and tension, as well as, the abuse of alcohol and caffeine may cause the teeth grinding to be more severe. 






Complications of gnashing of teeth:

The sharp grinding of teeth may cause any of the following:

  • Destruction of tooth enamel
  • Reduced teeth height
  • Increasing the sensitivity of the teeth from hot and cold
  • Erosion of the gums and bone support
  • Break fillings and tooth fracture
  • Weaken the performance of the mandibular joint
  • Unaesthetic appearance

Symptoms to look for:

  • Grinding of the teeth, which often occurs during sleep
  • Pain in the jaws or headaches or pain in the ear
  • Contraction of muscles repeatedly in the side of the face
  • The sensitivity of the teeth
  • The teeth look flat in the limbs
  • Non-alignment of teeth naturally
